Not satisfied with being left out of a trend, Cincinnati's Madtree Brewing has done their own spin on the popular citrus-infused IPA with a little somethin' called Blood Orange PsycHOPathy. This is a super light-bodied brew in terms of actual mouth-feel, contrary to its label as an IPA with 6.9% ABV. Despite its advertised orange-ness, it's not all that orange-y, nor is it all that PsycHOPic. After drinking 4 out of 6 cans, we still can't figure out where the blood orange flavor is. There's definitely some citrus zip, but by no means does it insinuate "blood orange", or any other citrus fruit specifically. The overall taste is more like a standard IPA with a general twang. The best two things about BOP is the bitchin' orange-and-black can, and the slogan at the can's rim: "It's the IPA of the Tiger." Is it a bad brew? NAH. Is it a good brew? Sure. Did it give Fode some terrible fucking heartburn every time he drank it? Fuck yeah it did. If you're into citrus IPAs, this is a middle-of-the-road adventure down Beer Street, with a wicked "shortcut" through Heartburn Alley.
